Job Description – Associate Lawyer (3+ and 5+Years)

Overview
Our successful, virtual boutique law practice is seeking to hire two litigation Associates immediately. We seek to hire an Associate lawyer with at least three years of litigation experience and an Associate lawyer with five years or more litigation experience. We aim to deliver timely, high-quality legal advocacy through an innovative virtual law office environment. In 2017, we were awarded the Innovative Workplace Award by the BC Branch of the Canadian Bar Association, based on our practice model that delivers the work-life balance sought by many, but achieved by few. The successful applicant will have conduct of matters from file opening to file closing at all levels of the judiciary process, as well as a unique opportunity to develop law practice management skills. This job is an excellent opportunity to work on complex files in the areas of labour, employment, administrative, and human rights law.

Qualifications

  • The successful applicant is adept in the use of computer and software technology and has a personal interest in learning to use cutting-edge technology to deliver cost-effective legal services to our clients and in related legal proceedings.
  • The successful applicant will be self-motivated and possess both the self-discipline to work independently and the ability to work collaboratively with other members of the firm.
  • The successful applicant will have litigation experience before the Federal Courts involving the Federal Government and its agencies, as well as the BC Supreme and Provincial Courts.

Job Description – Client Intake Specialist/ Bookkeeping Assistant

Overview

Labour Rights Law is seeking a dedicated Client Intake Specialist/Bookkeeper Assistant to join our dynamic team.

In your role as a Client Intake Specialist, you will be the first point of contact for prospective clients, and you will contribute greatly to the first impression of the firm.

Intake Specialist Responsibilities

  • Answering and responding to intake calls/emails
  • Conducting conflict searches
  • Following up with potential leads
  • Setting up initial consultation meetings with lawyers

As a Bookkeeper Assistant, you will work alongside the firm’s bookkeeper/manager and provide vacation relief while she is out of the office and assistance as required.

Bookkeeper Assistant Responsibilities

  • Assisting with general accounting tasks
  • Reviewing lawyers’ time entries
  • Preparing pre-bills and assisting with monthly billing
  • Other bookkeeping-related duties

Key Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Outstanding customer skills
  • Proficiency with computers including MS Word, Excel and other programs
  • Strong attention to detail and proofreading skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Willingness to learn and take on responsibilities as needed
  • Positive, team player
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Sales experience and/or bookkeeping experience in a legal environment is an asset.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $43,000 – $55,000 annually.  Labour Rights Law offers an excellent benefits package which includes long-term disability benefits and 10 flex days per year along with flexible working arrangements.
