Navigating Legal Ethics: Insights from Lior Samfiru’s Resignation

Latest Articles

In a significant recent development, the Resignation Committee of the Law Society of Alberta accepted the resignation of Lior Samfiru effective July 30, 2024, a lawyer practicing employment law in Alberta, BC and Ontario. This resignation comes as Samfiru faced three citations alleging conduct deserving of sanction. Rather than addressing these allegations in a formal conduct proceeding, Samfiru chose to resign, agreeing not to practice law, appear before Alberta courts, or provide legal advice to clients in Alberta.

The citations against Samfiru raised serious concerns about his conduct, including failing to promptly transfer a client file, attempting to influence a client to withdraw a complaint to the Law Society, and failing to act with integrity.

As employment lawyers committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism and ethics, this case serves as a reminder of the importance of integrity in legal practice. When clients entrust us with their legal matters, they deserve to know that their lawyer will act in their best interests, handle their cases with the utmost care, and adhere strictly to ethical guidelines.
